Haugesund, Norway - Sept 2024

Last stop: Haugesund, Norway - September 18, 2024   We had the MDR for breakfast where I got my favorite salmon again. After we stopped by the buffet because I wanted an iced bun too for the day's picnic, well, the guy in front of me took the last two on the ship. I asked and went to each bread station...no more :( . Getting off the ship, you walk through the port area and then across a bridge. After crossing, we stopped at a grocery store, Extra, first and found some good snacks that we had for a picnic later. Here is one. I like the Milka Daim bars, so tried Daim SmaBiter. They was very good too. We also got licorice for Travis, and chocolate chip cookies and chocolate chex.  Haugesund City Hall and fountain across from it.  Starting the hike to and around the Djupadalen area. It was challenging to find the trail, getting through town. After finding the trail, there were some muddy, difficult parts of it. There were small kids hiking it too. When we first saw them, they were in a

Nordfjordeid, Norway -- Sept 2024

Nordfjordeid port became fjord cruising - September 17, 2024   We arrived and docked in Nordfjordeid. We had an awesome RIB (boat) tour booked to Geirangerfjord, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site and supposed to be one of the prettiest fjords. The tour company sent a reminder email and also changed the time an hour later, so I emailed to confirm that it was later. No explanation at first and still did not say that they changed it, just that the new documentation showed 10am, instead of 9am on my printed tickets. We were most looking forward to this tour. However, it was not to be. The tour was 80% refundable if our ship did not get to port; they auto-refunded it. Though we paid in Norwegian Krone, and I feel like the exchange rate also became less favorable for us for the refund.  The Captain got us docked, and then with the harbor master determined it was too windy for us to stay docked. We had the submersible moorings like we experienced the previous day in Flam, and they were no

P&O Britannia Cruise Review -- Sept 2024

P&O Britannia Review -- September 13-20, 2024    This was our first cruise on P&O UK cruise line. It was great value and included the daily service charges included in the fare. It was a British experience where everyone was lovely and the vibe was more relaxed. As an American, you can only book P&O UK through VacationsToGo; we booked through Emma Cruise's US travel agent, who went through VacationsToGo.  Embarkation Our assigned embarkation time was late -- 2:45pm, but it worked out and gave us time to explore the SeaCity (Titanic) Museum. We went early, at 10:30 am, to drop off our luggage because it did not work out to store it at the Airbnb. There were people available to let us know that they start taking luggage at 11am. This is the first time that we brought luggage before our check-in, and it worked out well after we knew the state time. Originally, we wanted to carry it on since the rooms should be ready before our check-in time, but when that did not work out,

What we ate on P&O Britannia -- Sept 2024

Image
Menus are compliments of our waiter and assistant waiter on the last night (so I do not have the last night's). We had set dining at 6:30 pm, first seating with a table, next to a window, for 8.  September 13, 2024 Menu: What we ate: Dutch-Style Golden Fried Chicken Croquette with Onion Ring - GOOD   Ham and Puy Lentil Soup  Sea Bream Fillet Grilled Prime 5 oz Beef Sirloin - OK - the Bearnaise Sauce was good on the steak Steamed Sticky Toffee Pudding Mint Choco Chip - VERY GOOD - the chocolate chips were not like chips, but were very soft making it easy to eat. The British desserts had too much fruit included for my taste. Only three desserts + nightly ice cream selection + nightly cheese plate is not very many dessert options. The MDR was also the only place to get included ice cream; there was no free soft serve or regular ice cream on the Lido deck. There was paid ice cream on the Lido deck; I do not feel like any Lido deck is fancy enough for paid ice cream. September 14, 2024
